A Physical Demands Analysis (PDA) outlines the physical requirements for a specific job. A return to work (RTW) plan can be developed from the PDA after a worker experiences an injury. It provides an individualized, safe, and effective outline to modified duties and plan to return the employee to work safely.
A PDA can give a potential employee a clear picture of the demands of the job, so you can match the worker with the work. It can also act as a guide for pre hire physical abilities testing to ensure the employee is able to preform all duties required of them in that position. It promotes injury prevention and workplace safety.
After an injury it gives the doctor and health care team a clear picture of the physical demands of a specific job. This can be useful after an injury to compose an accurate and effective return to work plan and determine modified duties where applicable decreasing lost time claims. WCB and other Insurance carriers require PDAs to manage claims.
When developing a PDA we will visit the worksite to observe work in real time, conduct interviews with management, supervisors, and workers as needed, review job descriptions, conduct an objective assessment of wight lifted and push/pull forces workers are performing. Assessments also include walking, standing, climbing, physical positions, and environmental requirements for specific jobs. The PDA you are provided from us will clearly define job description, job classification level, essential/marginal job duties, critial job demands, tool/equipment used, and environmental conditions.
RTW plans reduce time lost at work, claim costs, and employee turnover. It can increase productivity, worker morale and public image. It sends the message that the employer cares and will not abandon their workers. Modified work consists of adjusted job duties that allow injured workers to return to work during their recovery. It accommodates a worker’s medical restrictions, contributes to rehabilitation, and promotes a gradual return to regular duties, A RTW plan can decrease financial loss for both the employer and employee, can positively impact WCB premiums and assist in recovery. Injured workers who are offered modified work return to work twice as often as those who are not, resulting in retention of experienced workers, reduced hiring/training costs, strengthening of employee’s job security, and decreased WCB costs.
Our staff will provide an initial nurse assessment of injury and abilities and develop a comprehensive return to work plan including any modified duties as required. The plan includes a follow-up with the worker one week after the injury and, if needed, weekly follow-ups until employee is back to regular work duties. We can manage WCB cases as well as STD/LTD claims.
